The Fool Squad got their start as producers of the comic "Greenshows" at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. In the 1993 season of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Tom and Joe wrote and performed their first Greenshow (a 15-minute comedy presented for audiences waiting for the evening's play to begin). The audience response was so enthusiastic that the Fool Squad's Greenshows - filled with local, political, business, and cultural humor - became a legendary part of the ISF theater-going experience. Soon, Tom and Joe started getting requests for private shows. An idea was born and for more than fifteen years, The Fool Squad has entertained groups both big and small with their unique brand of custom-written humor. They've performed for (among others) the Mayor and City Council, The Idaho Press Club, United Vision for Idaho, the Canyon County Republicans, the ACLU, First Security Bank, Hewlett-Packard, Simplot Food Group, and the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep (we couldn't make that up). Tom and Joe also wrote the script for "open Idaho," "Saved By The Bill," and "Life in the Fast Lane," three award-winning videos, produced by Idaho Public Television. |

Joe Golden grew up in the Midwest but has loved being an Idahoan for the past fourteen years. He received his MFA in acting and directing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. As a child he always dreamed of being a comedian (largely because he couldn't do much else - and made fun of that). After graduating from UMKC, he came to Boise as an actor for the Idaho Shakespeare Festival…and never left. |
